On July 15 I needed to get a very large painting from Vancouver to Whitehorse. The only way I could get it to Whitehorse for a reasonable price was by air.
As I was flying “Yukon’s Airline” I decided to ship the item via air cargo. The painting of CF-CPY (our DC3 weathervane) was donated by the owner to the transportation museum. I was very nervous shipping this one-of-a-kind painting, especially via cargo.
I want to thank Air North cargo for taking special care with this irreplaceable artwork from Vancouver to Whitehorse. It was asked that great care be taken in handling this very large item. It made it to Whitehorse the next day with not a mark on the wrapping.
After seeing the care and attention given by the air cargo crew I will no longer have any worries shipping by Air North in the future. If they can handle and transport a very large valuable painting without a mark they can ship anything with no worries. Thank you.
In addition, I had major surgery in Vancouver on July 14. I was released from Vancouver General’s cancer unit the next day as the bed was needed and was very ill. I was fast-tracked through security, wheelchair and all.
The Air North flight attendants took great care in making me as comfortable as possible, which was no small feat. During the flight we hit the worst turbulence I have ever encountered (I fly a lot) which lasted quite some time. In great discomfort the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude to calmer air. I’m not sure if the flight attendants advised the pilot to climb, but even so, it was much appreciated as I believe I was on the verge of fainting from the pain.
Upon arrival in Whitehorse I was in quite an emotional state, and all the crew did their utmost in assisting me off the plane and took a great deal of time getting me to the terminal, going very slowly over the bumps. I didn’t know a spot of dust could hurt when you run over it.
Everyone knows that we are all very fortunate to have Yukon’s airline as our own. They don’t just do “their job,” they go over and above the call of duty for their passengers and cargo.
