What are the issues that matter most to Canadian voters? Well, at the Speed Dating the Candidates event on Sept. 30, attendees were asked to indicate, by placing dots on a board, what were the three issues most important to them in each of the two upcoming elections. For the federal election, the environment and climate change was the No. 1 issue. The economy was way down on the list.

Maybe this wasn’t a huge sample, but I find this fascinating. The question then becomes why none of the big three parties are talking about the environment more than in passing? The Conservatives tell Canadians that the most important issue is the economy and the other two parties just accept it.

My conclusion: this is why we need the Green Party in this election.
