Cellphone scofflaws

Friday June 29, 2012

My name is Aaron McGowan and I know there is a law that people aren’t supposed to use their cellphones while driving, but a lot of people are still talking on their phones while they drive.

I ride my scooter to work and almost every day I see people using their phones when they’re behind the wheel. I almost had an accident because someone was using their phone and wasn’t paying attention. People aren’t looking!

I would like to see the RCMP nail people with a lot of tickets. Then drivers might stop using their phones and breaking the law. I don’t want to see someone get killed because drivers are using their phones and putting other people at risk.

North of 60, won’t make a difference. They can’t issue a ticket based on 1 person’s word - wouldn’t hold up in court. Until the RCMP step up the enforcement in general. I mean, I like half the town speed down 2mile, knowing that the odds of getting a ticket are virtually nil.

As for the cell phone users… there’s people who can’t drive properly when they’re focusing 100% on the road. Meanwhile there’s others who can hold a conversation, drink their coffee, and still drive a stick without endangering everyone else on the road.

It’s just stupid that we’re making laws for the lowest common denominator.

Note the vehicle license number and turn them in to the RCMP.

Complaining in the News won’t do any good.
