MP Ryan Leef isn’t listening
The primary purpose of society is justice. Our most fundamental concern must surely be protecting the lives of the weak and helpless against the strong. Canada is unique in the civilized world in that a premature child in a Canadian hospital may be afforded the very best of medical care in one room or be extracted, cut up and discarded in an adjoining room. Society has no say in the matter.
An MP has put forward a private member’s bill to address this issue by considering the legal definition of when life begins.
Without any constituent consultation, our MP will vote against this bill. This suggests to me a lack of moral understanding, an excess of ambition or a lack of courage. I am profoundly disappointed.
