Copper, gold and zinc discoveries on display

Northern Tiger Resources and Firestone Ventures are holding an informal meeting to show off their recent mineral finds on Saturday.

Management from both exploration firms are going to display results from gold and copper projects in the Klondike as well as zinc projects in Guatemala.

The meeting will be held in the General Store room at the Gold Rush Inn at 7:30 p.m.

Better than putting Yukon Energy on the auction block

The Yukon Arts Society is holding its annual Christmas Exhibition at the Yukon Art Society Gallery tonight.

Guest auctioneer Dennis Fentie will help sell off a series of unique birdhouses from the Yukon Women in Music group from 5 to 10 p.m..

Food will be served and there will be performances by Selina Heyligers-Hare, Kim Rogers, Caroline Watt, Kathy Craig, Kate Weekes, Jill Murdoch, Nicole Murdoch and Erica Heyligers.

24-Hour playwrights strut their stuff

The best writing from Nakai Theatre’s 24-Hour Playwriting contest will be shared with the public next Thursday.

The Playwriting Cabaret will be held at Yukon Inn Fireside Room at 7 p.m.

The best five minutes of each play will be showcased and awards will be presented.

Haines Junctions holds double birthday

Haines Junction is celebrating two anniversaries this weekend.

It’s the village’s 25th year of incorporation and Junction Arts & Music’s 10th anniversary.

A community potluck, the unveiling of a moose sculpture, dancing and music will be featured on Saturday.

A barn dance will feature caller Bob Kuiper, Annie Avery, Keitha Clark and two young fiddlers.

The party starts at 6 p.m.

The best hockey in decades

The first triple-A hockey in 16 years is coming to Whitehorse.

The Whitehorse Huskies and the Powell River Regals will play a two-game series at the Takhini Arena.

Friday’s game starts at 8 p.m. and Saturday’s is at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $12 at the door and the beer garden will be open.

Naked ladies and dirty jokes

Varietease is holding it’s third burlesque show in as many years this week.

From November 24 to 28, scantily clad dancers and raunchy comedians will take the stage at the Yukon Arts Centre.

A peep show and music will also be featured in the cabaret, which begin at 9 p.m.

The last two nights will feature a midnight show for the real hedonists.

The show is for those 19 and over. Provocative and burlesque-themed attire is recommended.

Local play begins at the Guild

The Soul Menders, a play written by Patti Flather, opened on Thursday and continues with shows this weekend at the Guild.

The Gwaandak Theatre production is about the evolving relationship between a newly divorced mother and her 17-year-old son.

The play features forty different scenes, 15 set locations and an unusual number of costume changes.

The shows begin at 8 p.m. and tickets are between $18 and $20.
