Man shot near Lewes River Bridge south of Whitehorse, RCMP say

A man was shot south of Whitehorse on Jan. 13, an incident now under investigation by the Whitehorse RCMP and the General Investigation Section.

According to a Yukon RCMP news release, the RCMP and Yukon EMS responded after a shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. An adult male had reportedly sustained gunshot injuries and he was taken to hospital with non‑life‑threatening wounds.

The incident occurred in the Lewes River Bridge area on the Alaska Highway and the investigation remains ongoing, RCMP said.

Yukon RCMP spokesperson Calista MacLeod confirmed that no arrest has yet been made.

Police said the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing risk to the public.

Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area or has information or camera footage to contact GIS at 867‑667‑5555.
